About Arden Packeer

Arden Packeer is a Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE #20716), Cisco Certified Systems Instructor (CCSI #31090) and Network Consultant in Melbourne, Australia. With more than 10 years of experience in networking and network management systems he has helped clients such as Telstra, Ericsson, ANZ, and the Australian Department of Defence to learn about, design, install, and troubleshooting large enterprise class WAN and LAN environments. He currently works for Cisco’s Advanced Services team in the Data Centre and Virtualisation practice.

After completing his Bachelor of Computer Science degree, Arden started life as a Java programmer working on network management system products for Ericsson Australia. He rolled out some network management systems (NMS) and Operational Support Systems (OSS) for Ericsson’s ATM Switches (AXD301′s!) for telecommunications operators and service provider networks in the Asia Pacific region including StarHUB Singapore, IndoSat Indonesia, and Digi Telecom Malaysia. He even worked for a year in England and Ireland on British Telecom’s ATM network.

After that he thought he’d give teaching a go. In his role as a Cisco Instructor, he focused on translating his hands on technical experience into delivering quality Cisco courses covering Routing Protocols (EIGRP, OSPF, RIP, BGP), Multi-protocol Label Switching (MPLS), IP Quality of Service, Security and VoIP. He thinks that the saying “those who can’t do, teach” is bullshit. Those who can explain, understand and he would gladly prove it to you.

After teaching, he worked for as a senior network engineer for a Service Provider where he designed and implemented a large MPLS based access and core network and loved every minute of it. He now work for Cisco Systems Advanced Services team in the Data Centre and Virtualisation practice where he specialise in Cloud frameworks and architectures in the Asia Pacific theatre. He thinks cloud is cool and is not afraid to admit it.

He currently has a bunch of network certifications but he is most proud of his CCIE (R&S). Along with being Cisco certified, he also certified and a big fan of Linux (RHCE, Novell CLE).

These days, when he’s not puzzling over interesting networking problems, you will find him hanging out with his lovely wife, Carlie, and his awesome son Lamar. That and reading about, watching, and playing as much golf as my busy schedule allows. He someday even hopes to break 100 90!

Arden also likes writing about himself in the third person because it makes him sound important. :)

ardenpackeer.com

Why ardenpackeer.com? Why not! The goal of this site was originally as a study aid for myself. I started it in July 2007 as a study aid in preparing for my R&S CCIE. My hope is that my study notes and articles will help others learn about networking, and encourage others to share their own networking experiences. I hope you find it helpful!
