I got 70%. Pretty disappointed about this one, as I missed some easy masks. Some I lost because of the grading again looks for very specific answers (although I think this grading script was better than the last one).

Points break down:

** Feel free to read ahead as it should contain no spoilers **

  • Lost 2 points for not injecting a default route the way the script was looking for. It matched the output, but not in the way it was injected. I feel I shouldn’t have lost the points on this one as it didn’t say exactly how they wanted it injected. 2 points.
  • Really weird wording. I know now what they were trying to get at (hindsight is always 20/20), but I wasn’t sure during the exam. It was whether or not I was allowed to create another interface to do this. I should have trusted my instincts. Something that could and should have been clarified with the proctor. 3 points.
  • Stuffed up a next hop issue again. This was a stupid mistake, and I should have read the question more carefully. 2 points.
  • New Feature I hadn’t seen before. Ended up being more straight forward than I thought. 3 points.
  • The only this I hadn’t configured before (which is a shame, because it was a really useful thing to know!). I had a guess. Got it wrong. 1 point.
  • My multicast didn’t match the script 100% on this one. I verified that it works but they were looking for a very specific solution. The solution turned out to be simpler than what I implemented. I think I over thought this one. Something I will clarify with the proctor next time. 4 points

So 2+3+2+3+1+4 = 15 points lost = 35/50 = 70%

One thing for sure about the CCIE, I’m beginning to recognize when I should go and ask the proctor questions. I am also getting a feel for how I would ask and phrase those questions. When I look at a question now I can sort of guess what they are trying to test me on (or what little trick they are trying to trip me up on).

I can’t just go up to the proctor and say “are you trying to trip me up because of this reason”, but I can eliminate certain options about the exam question in the way I would phrase a question to the proctor “ie. am i allowed to create a new interface here? Is it okay if I have other type 7 lsa here instead of the just the default…the question doesn’t specify?”.

I’m really glad I did the assessor, because it really opens up your eyes on some of these things. Its hard to explain, but doing the assessor labs you can see the wording in some places is definitely leading you down a certain path. This kinda sucks, because it ends up being not whether you know the stuff but how you interpret the question.

Next Mock-Lab is on Monday, but I’m taking Saturday off to go jogging with my wife. I’m going to lab these up, make a list of where stuff is on the DocCD tonight and tomorrow.
