I got my CCIE plaque in the mail yesterday:

To be honest, I’m really disappointed.
I wish they didn’t get rid of the old ones (Greg I’m soooo jealous!). After all that hard work, this thing looks like its made out of plastic. What am I saying, it IS made out of plastic! Plastic with a bit of glass stuck on the front. Bring back the old medallions. That is something you can show with pride!
According to Tassos, the company that made the old ones, Brandvia, is still around. I’ll be sending them an email to see if can get one of those old school medallions….
Seriously, Cisco, the new CCIE Plaques suck!
We pay $1400 a pop for the Exam (not to mention countless hours of blood sweat and tears), surely Cisco can make the prize at the end a little better than this!
Arden, I have to agree, now that I have seen yours, that is sucky.
I may be the only person that look at my medallion, but it looks great and stylish. I wonder how much it really costs ?
On the other hand, the medallion took three or four months to arrive, I guess they used to wait until they had a minimum order quantity to strike the medallions. I also remember people complaining when a name was misspelled.
I have to agree. I’d be happy to pay for my own medallion.
My current plan is to have something nicer made myself.
Hey man, Nice blog you got here.Keep up the good work!
J
plaque shmack, least you got your # after all the struggle.
@navfett Don’t get me wrong, I still think its the digits that matter way more than the plaque. But I think it sucks that they are trying to save money by replacing the old medallion with this plaque. I want something that makes me feel like I have earned it.
Arden, i got a reply from Brandvia stating that they are not allowed to sell these plaques anymore.
So i sent an email to the Certification Program Manager describing my disappointment.

Maybe all new CCIEs should do the same.
I agree that this new plaque is a bit ugly! At least Cisco should give us an option to “buy” one a bit better than this! argh! :)
Congratulations on your achievement!!!

Trade your CCIE plaque in at your local HoneyBaked Ham Store… they used the exact same style plaque as the old CCIE plaque, only instead of green, it was pink, and the # was the store # instead of your CCIE #.

Because this is the days of Dumps. Most CCIE these days don’t worth the numbers and they cannot even defend their numbers. I think it is OK to separate the boys from the men with what you got.
Congratulations on your CCIE.
Bummer about the cheapie plaque, though. I was totally looking forward to that medallion (and I’m a long way off). Bowling leagues give away nicer plaques than that.
I was dissapointed when I got my CCNA too. I’ve seen nicer work in MS Paint. The newer MS certs aren’t as nice as the old ones, either.
For the amount of time we put into these things, we should at least get a warm and fuzzy feeling when we open the box.
ATTN CISCO: Plastic plaques are for kids who are the “most improved” on their tee-ball team. Medallions are for heroes and winners. Take the hint.
