CCIE Lab Study Tips

Study Tip: CCIE>Blog – Blogging as a study tool!

Thanks for visiting! If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. This blog posts regular tutorials, news, and study tips about networking, especially about Cisco CCIE related topics. Go ahead, subscribe to the rss feed! You can also receive updates from this blog via email. Thanks for visiting!

IPexpert has just recently launched their CCIE>Blog site. The site allows you to create your own blog or add your existing blog to the CCIE blog directory. I had a browse through and there were a few jems that I hadn’t seen before! They have also released the new IPexpert Blog. So far it contains a bit of marketing material, but hopefully we will see some tutorials and the like from some of their instructors.

Some of you out there are probably thinking, why bother? Why bother creating a blog about your CCIE pursuit? Creating this blog is by far one of the best things I did in pursuing the CCIE!

One of the things that gets in the way of getting your CCIE is your own ego. It’s important not to fall into that trap. You will have weaknesses. You need to acknowledge them. Don’t be afraid of them. Turn them into your strength. I made it a point, for every weakness that I had I would write a tutorial on it in my blog. This forced me to learn that topic inside and out, and in the process hopefully help someone else out. Blogging has shown me how valuable this technique is, and I definitely recommend it. It has opened doors that I never even knew existed.

I think its great that IPexpert have decided to embrace the community this way. If you are pursuing your CCIE, I highly encourage you to start a blog! Share your trials and tribulations in your pursuit. Write down every little thing you learn. Not just for yourself, but for the community. Know that you are not alone. You’ll be amazed at how much it pays you back!

  1. Hi Arden

I’ve finally decided to take the plunge and set up my own blog (http://roy.ccieblog.com/) (lol why does this remind me of the people who go on talk shows only to plug their book/movie :)).

I was thinking with all the blosg out there there wasn’t much point in also doing one myself, by I’ll see hhow it goes :)

  2. I agree, blogging the CCIE journey made studying for the lab fun and motivated me to put a little extra effort in. Through blogging I also met a few CCIE candidates to share ideas with. Definitely good advice.

  4. Like Antonie said, having a blog gives an extra push to “put in a little extra effort”.

But sometimes I wonder, If I wasn’t blogging maybe I would be further along in my studies. It does take a lot of time to get my notes into a legible blog format.

However…. blogging does make me slow down and as a result it helps me get down into more detail in my studies.

So maybe… maybe not… who knows?

  5. Couldn’t agree more Arden. We tend to make sure our understanding is pretty strong when we know others will read and probably question it!

  6. [...] Well here goes..my first blog. I never thought I’d say those words. Regardless, I’ve decided in the past couple of months I would pursue the CCIE R&S certification. At this point, I’ve had about 4 years networking experience, hold a CCNA, passed the BSCI, and am taking the BCMSN towards the CCNP in a month. Sure, the CCIE sounds ambitious for someone who has yet to complete the CCNP, but I am confident in my abilities, and more confident in my motivation and drive. I thought it would be nice for others to see a blog from an “average joe”…someone not necessarily a genius in this field, but rather someone who really wants something, and is determined to get it. I hope it’ll serve as a source of motivation for others. Another reason for this blog, is actually a suggestion from ardenpackeer’s outstanding blog (Ardenpackeer.com). [...]

  8. The best professional development is criticism from others. I really think you hit it on the head. Thats a pretty good pic you decided to use of the plugged in LC fiber.

  9. Writing about something you study, is another way of exploring the material using your verbal skills. It also helps to look at the topic from different angles and keeps it more in memory; and from the traders prespective I can see it as a profit locking strategy :)
